New multilayers in the full beam

The new multilayers were exposed almost continuously to a 6 keV beam from Friday afternoon to Tuesday early morning. White beam slits were set large (16 mm H by 5 mm V) for radiography. Significant deposits developed, which could be removed with a soap solution and rinsing in methanol afterwards.

new ML exposed to beam

Deposit formed on new first multilayer after about 3.5 days in the beam.

during cleaning

During cleaning: the left third of the multilayer was wiped with a soap solution and a Q-tip as shown.
A bluish deposit could be removed.

ML after cleaning

After carefully cleaning and wiping with a methanol-soaked Q-tip, a shiny surface finish could be recoverd
for the most part.
