Turn by turn CBPM data is recorded in RD# files. Each file will in general have turn by turn data for each BPM and for each bunch.

The `cbpm_anal` program

Reads from an input file
- List of RD file numbers
- List of corresponding bunch numbers
- List of corresponding bunch currents
Computes for each bunch and at each BPM <x >, < y >, rms_x, rms_y, and fft of x and y positions.
Creates a subdirectory for each RD# and writes a file for each BPM and each bunch with x,y positions and x,y, fft as well as summary information
Creates a file for each BPM that includes summary information for all of the RD#.
Creates a file average_tunes.dat. The average of the tunes for all BPMs in the RD file for each bunch.

Input file

Example 1

The input file input.dat, has namelist format. Here is an example input file that lists turn by turn data files collected December 17, 2015 for a 30 bunch train with 7mA/bunch. Feedback is turned off for a single bunch for each data set. The input file below indicates that turn by turn data in RD file 21461 was collected with feedback for bunch 3 off, and with 0.7mA in all 30 bunches.

Example 2

The input file input.dat, lists turn by turn data files collected December 15, 2015 for a witness bunch trailing a 30 bunch train. Each CBPM data run collects turn by turn data for bunches in slots 31-45, 50, 55, 60. Typically there is current in only one of those slots. Feedback is turned off for that bunch. According to the below input, the turn by turn data in RD file 20865 was collected with 0.5mA in bucket 55.

The input file is a list of RD cbpm file numbers (up to 100), corresponding bunch number, bunch currents, and your best guess at the horizontal and vertical tunes to guide the search. This is especially important when horizontal and vertical tunes are close together. The program will search for peaks within some window about these input tunes. The width of the window is hard coded and may have to be adjusted if the range of tunes in the input RD files is large.

Running cbpm_anal

On a linux node type /home/dlr/development9_linux/production/bin/cbpm_anal and give the name of the input file or CR if it is named input.dat
The program will create a subdirectory for the BPM and bunch data for each RD number
A summary file for each BPM with the data for all RD files and bunches is written to the directory in which you run the program

Test

Copy the above input file to a linux directory.
Name the file input.dat
type /home/dlr/development9_linux/production/bin/cbpm_anal and CR when asked for an input file

Plotting

Some gnuplot scripts that are used to plot CBPM data are /home/dlr/development9_linux/trains_xbsm_bpm/plotting/scripts

train_vtune.gnu was used to plot the tune vs bunch data from the Example 1 input file above. User specifies 3 BPMs. For this run BPM 16-19 east and west are enabled. A possibility is

Also set date = '20151217' and ma = '0.7' so that the plot will be labeled with the date and the bunch current in the train
witness_htune.gnu was used to plot the tune vs witness bunch vs current data from the Example 2 input file above. User specifies BPM (i.e. bpm='BPM_23E.dat'). The script does not quite filter out all of the irrelevant data so the user needs to adjust the range.
