Instructions for running g2_tracking The program "g2_tracking" reads an input file named "input.dat", a lattice file with name starting with "bmad" and then several other files including field maps, muon distributions, detector layouts, etc. Copy "input.dat" and the lattice file "bmad ..." to your working area. Edit these two files to the configuration of interest. (See examples) It is good practice to rename the lattice file to something of your choosing. The lattice file name that you choose must then be specified in "input.dat" lat_file_name = 'bmad...' We use a softlink to access all of the other necessary files To create the softlink, in your working area execute the command On Cornell linux: On the Fermi grid: g2_tracking example input and lattice files October 3, 2017 1. g-2/examples/example1 Distribution of 10000 muons. Starting point is in the ring at the azimuth of the inflector exit. Distribution will correspond to specified twiss parameters. Spin tracking, muon decay, positron propagation and calorimeter hits are included 2. g-2/examples/example2 Start tracking at hole in iron. Distribution (VDstop_DS_436_12000.dat) is from source to ring tracking and consistent with specified twiss parameters. Muon decay and spin tracking off. 3. g-2/examples/example3 Start tracking at hole in iron. Muon decay and spin tracking off. Distribution (VDstop_DS_436_12000.dat) is from source to ring tracking and consistent with specified twiss parameters. 4. g-2/examples/example4 Single muon starting at the hole in the backleg iron and 20 turns in the ring Set pointers to all necessary data files with /g-2/softlink 5. g-2/examples/example5 Create a distribution of 100000 muons with phase space parameters specified in input.dat. Inject through hole in iron through inflector, kickers and around ring 700 turns and with quad scraping. Quad uses grid field Set pointers to all necessary data files with /g-2/softlink 6. g-2/examples/example6 Create a distribution of 100000 muons with phase space parameters specified in input.dat. Inject through hole in iron through inflector, kickers and around ring 1100 turns and with quad scraping. Quad uses grid field. Lattice includes fiber harps. Fiber data written to fiber_hits.dat. Can be analayzed with g-2/programs/analyze_harp Calorimeters can be included. 7. g-2/examples/example7 Create a distribution of 100 muons with phase space parameters specified in input.dat. Turn off quads. Start tracking at inflector exit. 8. g-2/examples/example8 7/7/17 Distribution of 1000 muons. Starting point is in the ring at the azimuth of the inflector exit. Distribution will correspond to specified twiss parameters. Generates fiber harp data 9. g-2/examples/example9 10/03/17 Distribution from 'particles_endm4m5_100.txt' Starting point is Q21 in M5 line. Distribution will correspond to specified twiss parameters at inflectror. Generates fiber harp data
