D-line TLC

intro

For the summer run 2004 and thereafter, D-line was in dire need of some Tender Loving Care - two of the first generation ADC slits were not working, and the third one not very reliably. Moreover, due to the fast radiography experiment at the end of the summer run, the hutch had been almost completely cleaned out, which provided an excellent opportunity to tend to various cabling and clean-up issues.

The radiography experiment and the fluorescence imaging experiments pushed the development of new optics options at D-line (4" 30A multilayer for large beam height, 15A multilayer for high energies). The possibility of an upgrade of the SAXS system was realized: the beam defining slits can move upstream into the D-line cave, thus shortening the incident flightpath inside the hutch. This allows to move the sample stage to a more stable position directly on the optical table and to gain additional length for the detector flight path of about 0.5 m. A maximum flightpath length of 1800 mm was achieved in summer 2005. Furthermore a second optical table was installed in the hutch, and a new modular flightpath system based on KF and ISO-100 parts.
