⁴⁰Galatia proper, that is, the area occupied in the 3rd century BC by the Gauls, or Galatians, is located in the north of modern Turkey, in Ankara’s vicinity. In 25 BC, the Romans occupied the southern part of the peninsula, which included Pisidia and Lycaonia, and annexed it to the province of Galatia.^[56–58]
