I am happy to report to you that the seven scouts and leaders who were able to assist your son Michael in bringing him down from Thunder Ridge at Philmont in July did all receive the Meritorious Service Award Medal of Merit. I just received these yesterday, and they will be awarded at a National Court of Honor in Kettering Ohio at Christ United Methodist Church, our troop sponsor on Sunday, March 4.
On Sunday I had the opportunity to have an Eagle Scoutmaster's Conference with one of the scouts who helped your son.
Interestingly, two brothers in the troop for whom I served as a merit badge counsellor for lifesaving merit badge, had the opportunity to rescue three people from drowning at Myrtle Beach in August. Joe, the 14-year-old, will receive the Lifesaving Honor Medal with Crossed Palms, and Dusty, the 12-year-old, will receive the Lifesaving Honor Medal at the same time. As the minister at our sponsoring church told me when I showed him the medals at our Court of Honor last night, I am indeed like a proud papa. These sorts of things certainly make that "one hour a week" we scoutmasters put in worth while.
Best wishes to you and to Michael.
