Some members of the insect order Hymenoptera (wasps, bees, hornets, et al)
are very attracted to meat. Last year at Philmont Scout Ranch, we
experienced this first hand. HORDES of yellowjackets/hornets were
attracted to the ground beef we'd browned for tacos. We had to keep a lid
on the pot constantly to avoid having significant protein added to the
recipe! Fortunately, they were not aggressive towards us. I've never had
this experience before (nor since) & hope to avoid a repeat. -Terry
