From my 1995 trek.......

The Top 10 Philmont "Words of Wisdom" TO IGNORE

10. Supper will be at 7 p.m. in the dining hall.
 9. The seams on the tents were sealed last week.
 8. Just follow the trail and it will take you right to
    camp.
 7. It doesn't rain in June.
 6. The mountain air dries out wet clothes quickly.
 5. Don't worry, you'll get accustomed to the altitude.
 4. That camp is only a mile from here.
 3. It's all downhill from here.
 2. Hey dummy, you won't need both a jacket AND a
    sweater.
 1. Smile, it's only 30 minutes to where you guys are
    going.

Or listen very closely to the second part that is usually mumbled.

. . . Philmont time. Philmont time is like "Gilwell time" - I think it
has to do with the Urraca Mesa effect.

. . . but that means your tent was on the trail when the seams were
sealed.

. . . you just need to know "which" trail is "the" trail to follow.

That's not rain, it the legendary Rocky Mountain liquid sunshine.

. . . once you get out of the liquid sunshine and quit sweating in them
and where the cooling effect of evaporation doesn't cause an increase in
condensation.

> 5. Don't worry, you'll get accustomed to the altitude.

. . . if you're here all summer that is.

> 4. That camp is only a mile from here.

. . . as the crow flies.

. . . except for the uphill bits.

. . . once you've been out here as long as I have.

. . . but its a couple of hours to your final camp.
