Nick uses string field theory to understand the formation and stability of cosmic strings. He also works with unstable brane systems using open string field theory. Recently, he’s been interested in interacting cosmic strings and trying to find properties that distinguish strings formed by brane inflation from standard field theory cosmic strings, which arise from phase transitions in the early universe. He is currently investigating the process of brane reheating using boundary conformal field theory.
