First, come first. There are three fundamental things you need to start with
and always work on them: walk, posture, balance. Without them you'll not able to do anything.
Regardless of your experiences, analyzing this triplet is what to make
you better in tango.
WALKING
Did you ever watch cats? I wonder how they move, so smothly, so gracefully and can
human do the same? When I was watching
Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo I was convniced, yes we do. You need to be pation,
put your feet at right position and move your whole body there. But remember you'll not
make your step alone, somebody will be in front of you. And it really doesn't matter
in which direction you're going.
POSTURE
What make tango so elegant spirit, outfit, emotions? But underneath, it's all about posture.
Look at yourself in a mirror, do you have rounding of the shoulders? Try to take a deep
breath and keep an air in your lungs, then easy release, but keep your chest open to air.
Slightly move your body forward, such that your chest would be aligned with your toes and
keep it there. This is how you'll dance tango. You need slightly lean towards your partner
when you dancing. This is where you'll develop the axis of the pair, between two of you.
The axis will go from your chests down between your feets.
BALANCE
Finally, balance. Did you ever tried to stay on one leg. Do it, it worthwhile. You'll immediately
recognize that you'll fall from one side to another, like a tree during windy day.
While you're making a step in tango, you step from one foot to another, and there
where you loose or control your balance. Try to make a step and put your weight
to one leg, even if another still touching the floor. In this position, turn to one side
and feel how to keep your balance. Every step in tango is about keeping your balance.
