Fermitools and DO software installation on Linux

You first need to register your machine in order to anon. ftp to fnkits.fnal.gov and www-d0.fnal.gov sites

Get registration form and then send to d0-release-mgr@fnal.gov
Get UPS/UPD. There's a new shell script that simplifies installation

Read what the script does
Get the script here (I got genericboot.sh)
run the script as a superuser: sh genericboot.sh

This installs flpr and other tools

If you did this, you should get a directory named /fnal with the following subdirectories

db - database of installed fermi products. Two important directories (and somehow it's made hidden) with configuration files for UPS and UPD exist.

.updfiles - contains an important file updconfig
.upsfiles - contains an important file dbconfig

etc - setup files directory
prd - fermi product directory

Now for the D0 stuff

make /d0dist/dist/upsdb and /d0usr/products/upsdb directories
You need to tell ups that this directory exists for packages by adding it to /fnal/ups/etc/upsdb_list
Change /fnal/ups/db/.updfiles/updconfig to look like this.
make packages and releases subdirectory under d0dist/dist/upsdb
You need /d0dist/dist/upsdb/.upsfiles/dbconfig. use /fnal/ups/db/.upsfiles/dbconfig as a template. Here, the variable needs to be set to PROD_DIR_PREFIX = /d0dist/dist
Similarly in /d0usr/products/upsdb/.upsfiles/dbconfig, PROD_DIR_PREFIX = /d0usr/products
OR, here's a gzipped tar file that does these for you linuxdist.tar.gz

cd /
tar zxf linuxdist.tar.gz

Now, you're set to haul d0 Run II stuff

setup upd
See what versions are available

upd list -h www-d0.fnal.gov -a D0RunII : lists the versions of libraries available
upd list -h www-d0.fnal.gov -a D0RunII-bin : lists the binary versions

The install!!! (depends on flavors)

upd install -h www-d0.fnal.gov -q dist D0RunII t00.57.00 : Install the NULL flavor t00.57.00 version ... only source codes
upd install -h www-d0.fnal.gov -q dist:IRIX6-KCC D0RunII t00.57.00 : IRIX6-KCC version

Setting up so that UPS knows about D0RunII package

export BFDIST=/d0dist/dist (for bash or sh)
setenv BFDIST=/d0dist/dist (for tcsh or csh)
export SRT_TOP=/d0dist/dist/releases/t00.57.00 (for bash or sh)
setenv SRT_TOP /d0dist/dist/releases/t00.57.00 (for tcsh or csh)
$SRT_TOP/SRTutil/reltools/BldTable
ups declare -z /d0dist/dist/upsdb -r releases/t00.57.00 -m D0RunII.table -f NULL D0RunII t00.57.00 -c

The arguments mean:

      -z is the database location
      -r is the source location
      -m is the name of the definition table
      -f is the flavor (in this case none)
      -c means current. -t would mean test version
      and you need to include the product (D0RunII) and the version (t00.27.00)

The database now knows about D0RunII

To make test or current releases

cd /d0dist/dist/releases
ln -s t00.57.00 current
ln -s t00.xx.00 test
ups declare D0RunII current -c -r releases/current -f NULL -m D0RunII.table -z /d0dist/dist/upsdb
ups declare D0RunII test -t -r releases/test -f NULL -m D0RunII.table -z /d0dist/dist/upsdb
