Final Report

Working Group Charges

The Global Accelerator Network has been put forward as a means for inter-regional collaboration in the remote operation of an internationally constructed and operated frontier accelerator facility. Two ICFA working groups have studied the concept and issued reports (available at www.fnal.gov/directorate/icfa/icfa_tforce_reports.html). This workshop will focus on its practical realization, emphasizing conceptual and system aspects of the elements of a Global Control System. The “Workshop on Remote Operation of Accelerator Facilities” at Shelter Island, later this year, will focus on possible experiments in remote control.

Three working groups will review the available experience and technology relevant for remote operation, suggesting alternate approaches and identifying areas where further development or new concepts are needed.

As a working Frame of Reference, we are asking every participant at the workshop to imagine for the moment that we are trying to envision a facility that will not be located at his or her laboratory.Further we should assume that a linear collider is the most likely object to be remotely operated.
